CION Investment Corporation operates as a Business Development Company (BDC) with a core focus on providing capital to middle-market businesses. It specializes in various debt instruments, including senior secured loans (such as unitranche, First Lien, and second lien loans), long-term subordinated loans, mezzanine debt, corporate bonds, and other debt securities. Additionally, the firm acquires equity interests, like warrants or options, in these target companies. CION supports diverse corporate initiatives, ranging from funding for growth and acquisitions to leveraged buyouts, market and product expansion, refinancing existing debt, and recapitalization efforts. Up to 30% of its assets may also be allocated to opportunistic investments, which can include securities issued by larger public corporations and foreign holdings. The company actively participates in the secondary loan market but explicitly avoids investing in start-up ventures, companies undergoing turnaround situations, or those with speculative business models. Its investment activities are predominantly focused within the United States. CION demonstrates a broad investment appetite across numerous sectors, including high technology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, business services, media, chemicals, plastics, rubber, telecommunications, consumer services, advertising, printing and publishing, consumer goods (both durables and non-durables), diversified financials, homebuilding, restaurants, hospitality (beverage and tobacco bars), broadcasting, various distribution channels, food and beverage, energy (oil, gas, and consumables fuels), insurance, aerospace and defense, industrial machinery, paper and forest products, information technology, metals and mining, and real estate. Typically, the firm commits between $5 million and $50 million per investment to companies generating an EBITDA of $25 million to $75 million, with an average target hold size of $25 million. CION also acquires minority stakes, in the form of either common or preferred equity, within target companies. These equity investments are generally made in conjunction with its debt offerings or through co-investments alongside financial sponsors. Successful exits from its investments are usually achieved via an initial public offering (IPO), a merger, a direct sale, or other recapitalization events.

Key Metrics

Current Yield

16.71%

At the Sep 14, 2026 price

The annual dividend as a percentage of the share price. A 3% yield is about $3 of dividends a year for every $100 invested at today's price.

Annualized Dividend

$1.2000

The most recent payment scaled to a full year by how often it's paid. A $0.25 quarterly dividend annualizes to $1.00.

Frequency

M Monthly

How often the dividend is paid: Q = quarterly (4x a year), M = monthly, S = semi-annual, A = annual.

Rank Score

27.5

As of Sep 14, 2026

Our 0-100 house score blending yield quality, payout sustainability (the trailing-twelve-month payout ratio), profitability (TTM return on equity), valuation (TTM price-to-book) and payment reliability, recomputed daily. Higher means a stronger profile on those factors in our model — a research score, not advice or a recommendation to buy.

RSI (14)

50

As of Sep 14, 2026

Relative Strength Index (0-100), a price-momentum gauge. Above 70 is often called 'overbought', below 30 'oversold'. A technical signal, not a dividend metric.

52-Week Range

$5.91 – $10.20

Closes through Sep 11, 2026

The lowest and highest price over the past year — shows where today's price sits in its recent range.

Payout Ratio (TTM)

520.26% (EPS-based)

12 months to Jun 30, 2026 (Q2 FY2026)

The share of earnings paid out as dividends over the trailing twelve months (TTM): dividends paid divided by net income across the company's four most recent reported quarters, dated by the latest quarter end. A fiscal-year tag such as FY2025 means only annual figures were available. Lower leaves more cushion; above 100% means paying out more than the company earned. It shows n/a for funds and when net income over the period was negative; for REITs and BDCs it is marked EPS-based, since they are judged on FFO/AFFO or net investment income instead.

Years Paying

5

How many years of payments we have on record. This can understate very long histories where our data doesn't reach far enough back.

Price / Book (TTM)

0.53

Price as of Sep 14, 2026; latest reported book value

Price-to-book ratio: the share price on the date shown divided by the latest reported book value per share. A rough valuation gauge, most useful for asset-heavy sectors like REITs, banks and insurers.

S.A.F.E. Dividend Read

S.A.F.E. is our quick durability read on a dividend — the same four-check test used across the screener and our ranked lists. Solid: a model rank of 70+ and a yield of 2%+; the rank weighs the trailing-twelve-month payout ratio, return on equity and price-to-book. Accelerating: the dividend has grown over time, not stalled. Flawless: an unbroken record with no cuts or suspensions. Enduring: a long enough paying history to weather a cycle. All four met earns the S.A.F.E. flag.
S Solid
Below the Solid check (model rank 70+ and yield 2%+): rank 28/100, yield 16.71%.
A Accelerating
Dividend growth has stalled — 0 consecutive annual increase(s), under the 3 this check looks for.
F Flawless
No dividend cut in the available payment record.
E Enduring
5 year(s) of payments on record, under the 20 this check looks for.

Why the Yield Moved (90 Days)

CION's dividend yield fell from 17.34% to 16.71% over the past ~90 days (-0.63 pp). Of that move, +0.00 pp came from changes in the dividend rate and -0.63 pp from the share price ($6.92 on Jun 16, 2026 → $7.18 on Sep 14, 2026). A yield that rises because the price fell is not an improvement in the payout itself.
