NFG National Fuel Gas Company — dividend yield, history & ex-dividend dates
National Fuel Gas Company (NFG) operates as a multifaceted energy enterprise, with its business structured across four primary divisions: Exploration and Production, Pipeline and Storage, Gathering, and Utility. The Exploration and Production (E&P) division is dedicated to discovering, developing, and producing natural gas and oil. Its operations are concentrated in California and the Appalachian region of the United States. As of September 30, 2021, this segment reported substantial proved developed and undeveloped reserves, comprising 21,537 thousand barrels of oil and 3,723,433 million cubic feet of natural gas. NFG's Pipeline and Storage arm manages interstate natural gas transmission and storage services. This involves an integrated pipeline network spanning Pennsylvania and New York, alongside the operation of underground natural gas storage facilities. Beyond transporting natural gas for National Fuel Gas Distribution Corporation, this segment also provides services to various other utilities, industrial companies, and power producers throughout New York State. It notably owns and operates the Empire Pipeline. The Gathering segment focuses on the construction, ownership, and operation of natural gas processing and pipeline gathering infrastructure, primarily located in the Appalachian region. It also extends gathering services to Seneca Resources Company, LLC. The Utility division supplies natural gas or offers natural gas transportation services to approximately 753,000 customers. These customers are situated in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Jamestown, New York, as well as Erie and Sharon, Pennsylvania. The company actively markets natural gas to a broad spectrum of clients, including industrial, wholesale, commercial, public authority, and residential customers, predominantly within western and central New York and northwestern Pennsylvania. Beyond its core energy operations, as of September 30, 2021, NFG also held significant timber assets, comprising approximately 95,000 acres of owned timber property and management rights for an additional 2,500 acres of timber. National Fuel Gas Company was established in 1902 and its corporate headquarters are situated in Williamsville, New York.

Key Metrics
Current Yield
2.74%
The annual dividend as a percentage of the share price. A 3% yield is about $3 of dividends a year for every $100 invested at today's price.Annualized Dividend
$2.2200
The most recent payment scaled to a full year by how often it's paid. A $0.25 quarterly dividend annualizes to $1.00.Frequency
Q Quarterly
How often the dividend is paid: Q = quarterly (4x a year), M = monthly, S = semi-annual, A = annual.Rank Score
62.6
Our 0-100 house score blending yield, payout safety, growth and momentum. Higher means a stronger profile on those factors in our model — a research score, not advice or a recommendation to buy.RSI (14)
42
Relative Strength Index (0-100), a price-momentum gauge. Above 70 is often called 'overbought', below 30 'oversold'. A technical signal, not a dividend metric.52-Week Range
$75.89 – $96.30
The lowest and highest price over the past year — shows where today's price sits in its recent range.Payout Ratio
36.34%
The share of GAAP earnings paid out as dividends. Lower leaves more cushion; above 100% means paying out more than the company earns. It shows n/a for BDCs, REITs and funds, which pay out of cash flow / net investment income rather than GAAP earnings, so this ratio doesn't apply.Years Paying
38
How many years of payments we have on record. This can understate very long histories where our data doesn't reach far enough back.Price / Book
2.70
Price-to-book ratio: share price divided by book value per share. A rough valuation gauge, most useful for asset-heavy sectors like REITs, banks and insurers.S.A.F.E. Dividend Read
Quote & Key Data
Dividend Growth
Why the Yield Moved (90 Days)
NFG's dividend yield fell from 2.79% to 2.74% over the past ~90 days (-0.05 pp). Of that move, +0.10 pp came from changes in the dividend rate and -0.15 pp from the share price ($76.78 → $81.00). A yield that rises because the price fell is not an improvement in the payout itself.
Yield vs Its Own History
Across 334 daily observations over the past 16 months, NFG's current yield is higher than approximately 88% of them. Our stored price history for NFG covers the past 16 months; 3- and 5-year averages are not yet computable from it and are deliberately not shown.
