Chevron Corporation functions as a global energy and chemicals powerhouse, orchestrating its diverse operations worldwide. The company's business is organized into two primary divisions: Upstream and Downstream. The Upstream segment focuses on the full lifecycle of crude oil and natural gas, from their initial exploration and development to production and subsequent transportation. This also encompasses the processing, liquefaction, transit, and regasification of liquefied natural gas (LNG), as well as pipeline transport of crude oil and the movement, storage, and sale of natural gas. Additionally, this segment manages a facility dedicated to converting natural gas into liquid fuels. In contrast, the Downstream segment is tasked with refining crude oil into a variety of petroleum products. Its activities include the merchandising of crude oil, refined goods, and lubricants, in addition to the creation and distribution of renewable fuels. This division is also responsible for moving crude oil and refined products using a range of methods, including pipelines, ships, motor vehicles, and rail cars. Furthermore, it produces and markets bulk petrochemicals, industrial-grade plastics, and additives for both fuels and lubricants. Beyond these core ventures, Chevron is also involved in financial management, debt financing, insurance underwriting, real estate development, and various technology-driven enterprises. Founded in 1879, the company operated as ChevronTexaco Corporation until it officially became Chevron Corporation in 2005. Its corporate headquarters are situated in San Ramon, California.

Key Metrics

Current Yield

3.33%

The annual dividend as a percentage of the share price. A 3% yield is about $3 of dividends a year for every $100 invested at today's price.

Annualized Dividend

$7.1200

The most recent payment scaled to a full year by how often it's paid. A $0.25 quarterly dividend annualizes to $1.00.

Frequency

Q Quarterly

How often the dividend is paid: Q = quarterly (4x a year), M = monthly, S = semi-annual, A = annual.

Rank Score

62.2

Our 0-100 house score blending yield, payout safety, growth and momentum. Higher means a stronger profile on those factors in our model — a research score, not advice or a recommendation to buy.

RSI (14)

69

Relative Strength Index (0-100), a price-momentum gauge. Above 70 is often called 'overbought', below 30 'oversold'. A technical signal, not a dividend metric.

52-Week Range

$146.75 – $214.06

The lowest and highest price over the past year — shows where today's price sits in its recent range.

Payout Ratio

103.68%

The share of GAAP earnings paid out as dividends. Lower leaves more cushion; above 100% means paying out more than the company earns. It shows n/a for BDCs, REITs and funds, which pay out of cash flow / net investment income rather than GAAP earnings, so this ratio doesn't apply.

Years Paying

56

How many years of payments we have on record. This can understate very long histories where our data doesn't reach far enough back.

Price / Book

1.51

Price-to-book ratio: share price divided by book value per share. A rough valuation gauge, most useful for asset-heavy sectors like REITs, banks and insurers.

S.A.F.E. Dividend Read

S.A.F.E. is our quick durability read on a dividend — the same four-check test used across the screener and our ranked lists. Solid: the payout is well covered and the overall model profile is strong. Accelerating: the dividend has grown over time, not stalled. Flawless: an unbroken record with no cuts or suspensions. Enduring: a long enough paying history to weather a cycle. All four met earns the S.A.F.E. flag.
S Solid
Below the Solid check (model rank 70+ and yield 2%+): rank 62/100, yield 3.33%.
A Accelerating
29 consecutive years of dividend increases.
F Flawless
No dividend cut in the available payment record.
E Enduring
56 years of dividend payments on record.

Why the Yield Moved (90 Days)

CVX's dividend yield fell from 3.95% to 3.33% over the past ~90 days (-0.63 pp). Of that move, +0.00 pp came from changes in the dividend rate and -0.63 pp from the share price ($180.11 → $214.01). A yield that rises because the price fell is not an improvement in the payout itself.
