BDC Dividend Stocks

Every business development company (BDC) in our coverage — a complete list, not a sample.

Business development companies lend to and invest in private mid-sized businesses, and — like REITs — must distribute at least 90% of taxable income, which produces some of the highest regular yields on the market.

The price of that yield is credit risk and leverage: BDC income depends on borrowers staying current, and most BDCs amplify returns with borrowed money. Coverage is conventionally judged on net investment income (NII) per share against the distribution, not on EPS.

Methodology

Securities whose filings describe them as business development companies, identified from our stored company descriptions and ordered by DividendRank. At roughly two dozen names this is our complete BDC coverage, shown in full.

What to Keep in Mind

We do not carry NII-per-share data, the standard BDC coverage measure, so EPS-based figures on ticker pages carry an explicit caveat. Rate cycles cut both ways for BDCs: floating-rate loan books earn more as rates rise, but borrower stress rises too.

Frequently asked questions

What is a BDC dividend?

A distribution from a business development company — a vehicle that lends to private mid-sized businesses and must pay out at least 90% of taxable income. Yields are structurally high; durability tracks the credit quality of the loan book.

How is BDC dividend coverage measured?

By net investment income per share versus the distribution — not EPS, which unrealized portfolio marks distort. We label EPS-based figures accordingly since we do not carry NII data.
